Car rental companies in Leros – a danger

A bad car or scooter rental can ruin your holiday. Most Leros car rental websites allow you to book dates. Their systems are often unreliable.

Furthermore, they do not indicate any clear prices online. Customers therefore have unpleasant surprises when they arrive at the port. They discover the real price on site.

This price often changes depending on the customer. For three years, these traders have been exaggerating and increasing their prices too much. The surprise can be very unpleasant.

Only ALIDIAN RENTAL CAR in Alinda and AUTO UNION in Aghia Marina offer a reliable booking tool. The other sites are outdated.

These methods often hide a desire to be paid in cash. ADVICE: if you pay in cash, DEMAND a discount. Don't just reclaim the VAT. They save 45% on their expenses!

PS: All rental companies deliver the vehicle to Lakki, Aghia Marina or the airport. This is not an exclusive service. They are thus hiding their lack of a physical office. You will also sign the contract on the car's bonnet!

Also be aware that the return can be difficult. Some Leros car rental companies inspect the car very strictly. Pay close attention to the condition of the vehicle when you leave!

Tips

Here, you are not asked to return the car with a full tank of petrol. Only Motoland is an exception to this rule.

Why do they act like this? The rental companies siphon off the surplus petrol when you return. They leave the bare minimum in the tank.

They then use this fuel for their own boats at a lower cost. It's incredible but true! One year, we ran out of petrol in Kamara. The nearest pump was only 800 metres away.

A special word for my "friend" PAGONIS. For three years, he maintained our vehicles. We trusted him completely. Yet, his undeclared bills kept mounting.

He charged us for four new batteries on a scooter. But the original battery is still there!

On the quad bike, we had to change a wheel bearing. This part never breaks without a lack of maintenance.

Yet, I took photos from his website for free to help him. That's the spirit of Leros. It's petty cheating.

Thank you Pagonis! Fortunately, we are not the only ones leaving. He has lost his local clients. Now, he only targets passing tourists to make up for it.

We also had problems with MOTOLAND. We had rented a car in September for a month.

There was no overall price. The contract only indicated a daily rate. The writing was very bad. We read 15 euros per day. In reality, the price was 45 euros. That's the high season rate.

We tried to negotiate with the owner of Pandeli Beach. These people are petty, uninteresting profiteers. No agreement was possible.

He therefore took us to court. The court judged us in our absence. The town hall displays hearing dates in its corridors. If you are not on the island, you know nothing.

We lost the case and paid the sum. He had trouble giving us a proper VAT invoice.

With the legal fees, he didn’t make much profit. He should have accepted our out-of-court settlement. What a shame!
